Congratulations to Pavel Shishlyannikov on Winning an Award in the 2023 Student Research Paper Competition!

A research intern at LIA took third place in the "Best Undergraduate Research Paper in Economics" category in 2023.

Pavel Shishlyannikov's paper examines the historical factors of interregional inequality. Using historical employment statistics at the uezd (district) level from the late 19th century and contemporary satellite data on nighttime light, the author demonstrates the persistence of disparities in economic development across Russian territories throughout the 20th century.
